Introduction Letter

September 3, 2014

Dear Parents / Guardians:

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce the St. Patrick’s Intermediate School Resource Team.  Mr. Card and Mrs. Pelisek will be working together to provide resource support for your child.  Although our Resource model is a team approach, your child’s Resource teacher that you will correspond with will be Mr. Card.  We look forward to working with you and your child, in order to create an effective partnership between school, home and the student.

Individual Education Plans (IEPs) will be completed and distributed to parents and teachers for their review and input by October 16, 2014, however classroom teachers will be provided with information about your child’s strengths, needs and accommodations by the end of the first week of school.  Telephone contact with parents should occur by the end of the second week of school.

A necessary and key focus of our involvement with our students is to teach and foster self-awareness about each individual’s unique learning style, strengths, needs and accommodations.  Through the building of self-awareness students are better able to advocate for themselves and take greater responsibility for their learning and achieve greater success.

Some strategies that can be implemented at home in order to facilitate success this year include: ensuring consistent use of the agenda, organization of binders, establishing a routine homework time and location, encouraging use of problem solving strategies, reviewing your child’s notebooks and discussing due dates and curriculum.

If you need to contact me, my number at school is 613.733.3736.  I will return your call within two business days.  Please contact classroom teachers as a first step if your concern or question is course related.

I am hoping that you will encourage your child to get involved in extracurricular school activities, clubs and school events.  There are many such activities and opportunities to inspire, motivate and connect students to the St. Patrick’s community.  Students are asked to pay close attention to oral and written announcements for this information.  Please refer to our school’s website for further information (www.spe.ocsb.ca)

We hope that you and your child have a positive experience at St. Patrick’s Intermediate this year and we look forward to working with you, your child and their teachers to make this school year a success.

Thanks,

Chris Card (Gr. 7 Resource Teacher / Gr. 8 Gifted)

Karen Pelisek (Gr. 8 Resource Teacher)
